When we go camping there is always a time when we cannot go hiking somewhere or the rain starts and we have to stay close to our campsite. Sometimes we play games that do not require any physical items such as a Brazilian game called Adedanha (a‧de‧do‧nha). The object of the game is to name countries/cities/objects/names starting with a specific letter of the alphabet. It can be a good test of your knowledge.
The rules of this game may vary slightly so I'll explain it the way I know it. This game can be played with two or more players in a circle. Everyone elects the lead person to do the counting and scorekeeping. The group picks whether the game will be about countries/cities/objects/names. Whoever can come up with the most number of 'countries' (without repeating another's choice) for instance using the selected letter wins the round. The end of the round basically happens when nobody can come up with anything.
The letter is selected by making fists, and just like with rock-paper-scissors, count to three (Or all say 'a‧de‧do‧nha') and extend any number of fingers out.
Count each other's fingers using the alphabet until the last finger is counted. (IE: five fingers extended = A, B, C, D, E = E will be the letter to use in the game)
Starting with the person who is sitting to the left of the lead person, they call out the first category name = one point; or pass on their turn.
We also bring more games with us which are always a great source of entertainment. For example:
1) Pick-Up Sticks, we have the exact same kit as in this image. It has the perfect packaging for carrying along with us when camping. It's a fun game for all ages.
2) Jenga, is a little larger with packaging but can be great for campsites with a picnic table
3) Dominos, My favourite game here. Easy to learn and requires strategy.
4) Playing cards, tried and true. Always have a set of cards with you. Numerous games can be played.
5) Cribbage, or crib, is a card game traditionally for two players, but commonly played with three, four or more, that involves playing and grouping cards in combinations which gain points.
6) Spikeball Game, a newer game that appears to be gaining popularity, and is a good one for a campsite that has wide open spaces.
